Fight against poverty: music contest for young europeans
The European Commission proposes again the “Music against poverty” contest, open to young people, to celebrate the European Year for the Fight against Poverty and Social Exclusion.
“Young people aged 15 to 25 are called to enter their music pieces about the fight against poverty in the world – states a notice from the EU Executive –. Entrants will have to compose a piece of their own about development, in particular about the Eight Millennium Goals”.
The contest (the official website is www.ifightpoverty.eu) is part of the “I fight poverty” project, which aims to “raise young people’s awareness of the Union’s initiatives in the area of cooperation”.
Musicians under 25 years of age may send their works by 30th September. A panel of professionals will select one winner; a second winner will be selected by an online poll by 31st October. Winners may record their pieces in a recording studio and perform at the European Development Days, due to take place in Brussels in December 2010. Development Commissioner Andris Piebalgs stated: “Music is a powerful tool which can mobilise people of all ages and from all countries to fight poverty. The contest reflects the EU Commission’s will to involve the younger generations and raise their awareness of the importance of the Millennium Goals”.
